10 Years Running of Oddities
As of this year, Mouse the Witching Cat and Oddities in October will be officially 10 years old! Yes, you heard that right! Originally conceived as background lore characters tied into the album It’s Halloween, Mouse and Friends have been around for a whopping ten years officially.
It was only in 2016 that I really caught on Mouse’s story in particular and decided her story would be a standalone-book, which is when Mouse the Witching Cat’s first real draft was finished, polished and began the long process of illustration and refinement; though, the full story of that is for it’s own story in it’s own year (2026). For now, it’s mostly just a trip to see how far my little spooky-animal characters have come. How they’ve developed and changed as I have, and also as my style for the world of Oddities in October became concrete enough from my own. As a treat for myself (and possibly for fans) I redid a lot of ancient Oddities in October art of the characters.
The cranky vulture dude has dropped off since then as has a lot of other bully characters in the cast. Simplification is key. It’s also odd (ha) to see Crooner looking all-young like and Monty and Cavity are just so different to how they are now.
Good example of what I mean; I’ve stayed pretty consistent with Monty having an all black outer membrane vs the reddish shade he had before.
Flying high!
This is a retread of the original ‘track listing’ art I did in 2014 with pseudo-Mouse, and here’s Mouse, next to Oddities’ Promptober challenge listing.
And finally, the final piece I redid with the 'new' cast of characters. The og is technically from 2015, but I'm not being too picky. Look at how far my creations have come.
